Our Recent News

(2026 SYC Commodore
Captain "Tony" Ford)

Commodore's Corner

Ahoy Mates!

As SYC Leadership kicks off 2026, we are concentrating on several key goals that will allow SYC to continue growing SYC's relationship with the local Community, Federal and DC Governments and our Boathouse Row family to include WYC, DYC, EPBC and ACBA). Our key goals for 2026 will be as follows:

1. Be sure to set up structure and update policy to support our recently acquired SYC Lease in 2025.

2. Update Bylaw Articles to include the SYC website, social media, but not limited to other important governance, educational and historic matters that need updating in the SYC Bylaws

3. Fellowship through fund raising to include the following:

a. SYC Captains Ball (1 Formal Affair and 1 seasonal ball (Summer/Fall)) - both offsite,

b. 1 SYC Crab Feast,

c. 1 SYC night out, sponsor/host another summer jazz venue during DC Jazz Fest

4. Participate in updated "Stakeholders" meetings with DC Government Agencies regarding the Anacostia River initiatives with one or more of our partner organizations (i.e. PRYCA, 11th Street Bridge Park, other surrounding Boathouse Row Clubs, ANC 6B, SE Community friends and associates, etc).

5. Continue to work more closely with and our established 501c3 nonprofit partners to help obtain grants for our outreach efforts, support for historic preservation, education, marina grants, etc.

6. Use email, website and social media to communicate better with our supporters and the general public

7. Fulfill open SYC membership opportunities since space is now available

8. Continue with the ongoing removal of abandoned vessels from SYC premises (from either deceased or "MIA" former members)

These are just a few of the top level 2026 goals for SYC's forward progress.

NO SYC CAPTAIN WILL BE LEFT BEHIND OR UNDER THE RADAR! WE NEED YOU IN 2026! MAKE SYC A PRIORITY in 2024!

Sincerely,

SYC Commodore
